The course of „Advanced Processes in Power Generation” covers processes in the field of power plant technology, which differ from conventional power plant processes.

The first part of the lecture focuses on thermal and chemical refining processes of primary energy sources. Chemical and thermal fundamentals as well as the main process steps are introduced concentrating on the refining processes of coal. In addition, the topic of storing these chemical products synthesized with excess energy is discussed.

The second part deals with innovative processes and systems in the field of power plant technology. Mainly, the future of hydrogen technology as well as the reduction of CO2 emissions of power plant are emphasized. Hydrogen plays an increasingly important role in terms of chemical storage of excess energy produced by renewable energy systems. Due to the high relevance, this lecture also addresses the production, transport and storage of hydrogen. Furthermore, the integration of a new energy source such as hydrogen into existing power generation systems is discussed. With regard to the global objectives in climate protection, another focus lies on the reduction of CO2 emissions in power plants. In this context carbon capture and storage solutions are presented.

The course is held in German.
